Good Friday is a market holiday, thus I felt like I had 2 weekends. Thursday I went out to Hood River and had a marvelous MTB ride with Erin Ford and Mike Jones in the sun and Tim did a crit in the evening. Dinner out with friends, then a quick overnight at the cabin. Woke up and skied a bit while Tim snoozed. After lots of good relaxing on Friday, we headed down to Hood River to dinner with a friend and then back home to get ready for some mountain bike racing.
Mudslinger, given it's name, is usually muddy. We were blessed with weather in the 60's and plenty of sunshine. Granted, there was still some mud, but glorious, glorious day! It made the suffering so much better. We both squeeked out a win. Tim's was a bit closer than mine, but I had to work hard. Karen DeWolf never ceases to amaze me at her maintained fitness and her ability to kick butt. She did a little breast feeding before the race and then put the hurt on me. I appreciated it, sort of. Racing shouldn't be easy, right?
Then Sunday I had committed to teaching a MTB clinic for the North West Trail Alliance. When I woke up to the pouring rain, I got my gore-tex and good attitude and headed west towards the coast. At least driving out there the rain took a break and we had a nice window for parking lot drills in the morning before heading out for a wet ride. Over 30 women showed up! It is amazing. I have never ridden with that many women at once. Job well done to all the volunteers. Such great commitment in women's cycling here in Oregon. Makes me proud!
