We knew it was going to be stormy day, so we had an a.m. ride on the agenda and then had arranged to bring our bikes to Izegem, the USA Cycling house, to get them worked on and then sort of on the way was the Tour of Flanders Museum. The only sight seeing Wendy really wanted to do, so why not? We rode in the morning and almost got blown over, backwards, sideways, etc. The wind was amazing. It was like riding in slow motion into it. And at one point, Wendy came right into me and almost knocked me in the ditch. Not too pleasant, so the ride was cut short. Then the rain came and we headed over to Izegem. Driving was not very pleasant. Quite stressful, actually, but we made it. We dropped our bikes, picked up Carson Miller (Bend, OR) and Nick Weighall (WA) and drove over to Oudenaarde to the museum of the tour of Flanders. It was quite enjoyable and lots of great pictures and history of the tour. A definite must for visitors to this area that are cyclists. A few hours well spent, and then back to the house in Izegem, where we found that no work had been done on our bikes due to some miscommunication. Oh well. We tried. I guess I will have to muster through another race with how it is. And after Hoogerheide is Worlds and then back to Portland. Hard to believe it is getting that close!!! Here's some pics:
